The difference is in the length of a permit : at least 3 years and renewable in case of refugees, and at least 1 year and, in case of renewal, for at least 2 years in case of subsidiary protection. Member States shall issue to beneficiaries of refugee status travel documents , in the form set out in the Schedule to the Geneva Convention, for the purpose of travel outside their territory unless compelling reasons of national security or public order otherwise require.
