Summary

Dear readers, you are opening the 59th issue of our magazine, the first of the year 2021. Above all, these days we commemorate 30 years of the existence of the Podyjí National Park. In the introductory article, I describe the causes, origin and present of nature protection in this national park, including bilateral cross- border cooperation with the Austrian Thayatal National Park. The main topic of this issue is the legal regulation of species protection in the field of nature preservation law, in the Czech Republic and in the several European states. The Contribution of Barbora Křížová deals with the topic of compensation for damage caused by selected specially protected animals and by great cormorant according to the Act No. 115/2000 Coll., on Compensation for Damage Caused by Selected Specially Protected Animals. Attention is payed mainly to the current development of the Act, including its latest amendment, which has been effective since 1st April 2021. The contribution of Klára Djemel deals with current protection of large carnivorans, including the brown bear ( Ursus arctos ), the lynx ( Lynx lynx ) and the grey wolf ( Canis lupus ), under European and international law. The contribution of Vojtěch Polák deals with the legal status of grey wolf ( Canis lupus ) in Czech Republic which provides the direct protection to this animal. Based on the comparation with the neighbouring states, Germany (especially federal state Saxony), Poland and Slovakia, the article is trying to show the legal differences of the legal status inbetween these states and offer a solution for revealed deficiencies in Czech law, since the number of wolfs dwelling in the wild areas of the country has been gradually growing. Also, in another papers the authors deals for example with case law of the Con- stitutional Court of the Czech Republic and with the case of law of European Court of Justice.
