Summary The article deals with the decision of the European Court of Justice which confirms that the EU Member States are allowed to restrict the exception to mandatory pre-slaughter stunning for religious slaughter of animals in accordance with Council Regulation (EC) No 1099/2009 of 24 September 2009 on the protection of animals at the time of killing. It also elaborates on the current legal situation with religious slaughter in the European Union and its Member States.
