“SUCCEEDING GENERATIONS“ IN THE UNITED NATIONS CHARTER… United Nations non-governmental organizations and the United Nations Academic Impact Initiative 60 would respectively take interest in the handbook, the former by applying it, the latter by conveying through formal criminal justice education the importance of informal human rights education. Both would surely be in the interest of the United Nations Studies, and the Organization’s Peoples. 7. Conclusion “Criminology is a unique science because, being critical in nature, it should contribute to dispelling myths, distorted notions and illusions” . 61 The Preamble in UNESCO’s Constitution states “If wars begin in the minds of men, then in their minds defences of peace must be constructed” . The question as to whether sufficient defences already exist remains open. However, criminology leaves no illusion regarding the essential role of succeeding generations in building them up, which is important not only in the context of the Preamble in UNESCO’s Constitution, but also of the Preamble in the United Nations Charter. The responsibility of criminology, like the responsibility of other academic disciplines, relevant entities and organizations, 62 is to contribute to the gaps in the education of succeeding generations in the interest of building global peace and security. The United Nations Criminal Justice Studies should facilitate and enhance attaining this goal.
