THE ACTIVITIES OF THE SIXTH COMMITTEE DURING THE 66 TH SESSION … Finally, the Sixth Committee had to decide on nine requests for observer status in the GA for various entities. This observer status in a traditional sense should not be confused with the privileged observer status – legally somewhere between the observer status and UN membership – currently enjoyed by Palestine, 114 the Holy See 115 and newly also by the EU. 116 The Sixth Committee recommended to the GA to adopt the draft resolutions granting the observer status to the Union of South American Nations 117 (submitted by Guyana 118 ), the International Renewable Energy Agency 119 (submitted by the United Arab Emirates 120 ), the Central European Initiative 121 (submitted by Serbia, Italy, Montenegro, and Ukraine 122 ), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development 123 (submitted by Ethiopia 124 ) and to the West African Economic and Monetary Union 125 (submitted by Togo 126 ). The Sixth Committee recommended to the GA to defer to the next session, due to the lack of consensus, the requests for observer status for the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States (submitted by Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey 127 ) and the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (submitted by Cambodia, Japan, Nepal, the Philippines, the Republic of Korea and Viet Nam 128 ).
