HARALD CHRISTIAN SCHEU CYIL 14 (2023) Indeed, the key question of integration seems to be how to promote mutual respect between different groups in our highly fragmented European societies. In this sense, combating hate speech and other forms of unwanted expression is certainly not a feel-well programme based on simple moral judgments and cheap indignation. In the spirit of Article 6 FCNM, the Advisory Committee must give due consideration to the complexity and ambiguity of various forms of interpersonal and public communication and build on positive incentives and best practices of interethnic an intercultural dialogue and education. More trust in the self-cleansing powers of society is essential if criminal prosecution and condemnation are not to be the final answer.
