CYIL vol. 14 (2023)
CYIL 14 (2023) INTERNATIONAL INVESTMENT LAW IN THE CONTEXT OF THE EUROPEAN UNION One chapter is then devoted to an analysis of free trade and investment agreements of the EU. The author provides an insight into almost twenty various agreements (agreements already negotiated, agreements currently being negotiated, as well as agreements where negotiations has been halted or agreements likely to be negotiated in the future). The following chapter then continues with analysing investment agreements of EU Member States, comparing more than ten investment agreements and model investment agreements. An important and topical issue covered by a separate chapter is also a foreign investment screening. The author explains global trends, the EU framework and the new mechanism adopted in the Czech Republic. The author also provides a brief but useful assessment of the functioning of the EU mechanism and offers some prospects of the future developments. The last chapter then offers an overview of other international organisations relevant for the area of international investment law (OECD, UNCTAD, ICSID, UNCITRAL, and WTO) and of the influence of the EU towards their activities. To conclude, the author was able to address various important aspects of the topic in a concise and yet inclusive manner. The range of issues covered provides an insight into the complex topic of EU investment policy, including the aspects that are topical and still evolving. The reviewed book therefore represents a welcome contribution to the doctrine, especially in the Czech environment. In the view of the reviewer, the book could also serve as a useful guide for audience from the practice (state administration or corporate environment).
