SURVEY OF CZECH INTERNATIONAL LAW BIBLIOGRAPHY

SURVEY OF CZECH INTERNATIONAL LAW BIBLIOGRAPHY

The Survey covers Czech books, articles, chapters and conference proceedings dealing with international law and also texts of Czech authors published abroad, that appeared during 2017 and the first half of 2018. It includes also selected texts focused on private international law, European Law and the Czech constitutional law, that all reflect international law aspects. The division between sections I and II in part B is indicative only; many articles deal with public international as well as private international (or also European or municipal) aspects of analysed issue. Regarding monographs, all of them were written by authors and groups of authors connected with universities in Prague, Brno and Olomouc, although most of them have also experience gained in foreign academic and research institutions. Whereas there is no research institution focused exclusively on international law in the Czech Republic, the key role of law faculties is obvious. The development of international jurisprudence in Czech Republic is supported significantly also by the Czech Society of International Law, which has more than one hundred associated scholars, academics and practitioners nowadays. Among a number of Czech legal journals, the Czech Yearbook of Public and Private International Law published by the Czech Society of International Law and indexed in the SCOPUS database has confirmed its pivotal position. The eighth volume of this publication attracted not only attention of wide range of Czech and Slovak authors, but also many authors from abroad. Articles published in the CYIL in 2017 covered law of international responsibility, international criminal law, international organisations, the relation between international and European law, the use of force, international human rights law and humanitarian law, health law, environment protection and law of the sea, investment law and arbitration and Czech practice of international law. Many texts devoted to public and private international law were published also in other significant Czech legal journals issued by research institutions and universities, e. g. Právník [Lawyer] and The Lawyer Quarterly (both issued by the Institute of State and Law in Prague), Acta Universitatis Carolinae Iuridica (Law Faculty, Charles University in Prague) or Časopis pro právní vědu a praxi [Journal of Jurisprudence and Legal Practice] issued by the Law Faculty of Masaryk University in Brno. Topical issues are discussed in Mezinárodněprávní reflexe [International Law Reflections], published by Centre of International Law within the Institute of International Relations. The list of Czech sources dealing with public and private international law would not be complete without mentioning bulletins, bringing short and brief information or opinions on actual events. Such bulletins are issued e.g. by Human Rights Research Centre (a project of Faculty of Law, Charles University), the Czech Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Brno and the Czech Society of International Law. Although texts published in these bulletins are not included in the following survey, they may inspire and provide relevant information for authors and researchers. In comparison with previous years, we can identify a strong and complex group of articles and book chapters devoted to international legal aspects of migration and legal status of refugees in the survey in 2017. Also the group of authors focusing on international investment
