Factors responsible for the decline included the deteriorating political climate, the general economic slowdown, and then, towards the end of 2019, the global outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Year-on year production continued to decline until 2020, with a return to growth in 2021. In 2022, China’s motor vehicle production grew again, with total production increasing by 3.4%. Passenger car production in China increased by 11% year-on-year.
