The SDGs provide an opportunity for companies to create value for both their business and society through (United Nations Global Compact and KPMG, 2016): (1) Developing products, services, technologies and distribution channels to reach low-income consumers; (2) Investing in supply chains which are ethical, inclusive, resource-efficient and resilient; (3) Improving the skills, opportunities, well-being and hence productivity of employees, contractors and suppliers; (4) Increasing investment in renewable energy and other infrastructure projects. 3.1 PROMETHEE method and GAIA plane The family of PROMETHEE methods belongs to the outranking methods of decision- making and can be used to solve various decision-making problems, e.g., ranking (Brans and De Smet, 2016), sorting (Araz and Ozkarahan, 2007), efficiency measuring (Ishizaka et al., 2018), analysis of (dis)similarities between alternatives (Ishizaka and Nemery, 2011; Sarrazin et al., 2018). The core idea of the PROMETHEE method is that each pair of n alternatives is compared using the so-called preference function in terms of each of k criteria. This preference function assigns the preference degree P j ( A i ,A r ) ∈ [0,1], which describes how strongly we prefer i -th alternative to r -th alternative in terms of j -th criterion. The preference degree is calculated using the difference in performances of both alternatives. Mareschal et al. (1984) proposed several types of the preference functions differing in shape. There is no general rule recommending, which type is suitable to use, but Jankowski et al.
