The reasons stated, for example by the USA, are their responsibility for the protection of South Korea and for peace keeping. 34 In this respect, however, General N. Schwarzkopf 35 and fourteen other retired generals and admirals wrote in an open letter that anti-personnel land mines were not the basis of military effectiveness or security of American forces in South Korea.
