Abstract: The purpose of this article is to provide information on the admissibility of applications to the European Court of Human Rights. Drawing on the case-law of the European Court, the main criteria of admissibility are briefly described; they are divided into groups based on the principle of hierarchy. In order to make the explanation clearer, an invented case is used as an example in the end of the article. Resumé: Účelem tohoto článku je poskytnout informace o přípustnosti žádostí u Evropského soudu pro lidská práva. Za využití judikatury ESLP jsou zde stručně popsána kritéria přijatelností takové stížnosti s rozdělením do skupin na základě principu hierarchie. Pro větší srozumitelnost je na konci článku umístěn imaginární případ použití uvedených podmínek přijatelnosti v praxi Evropského soudu. On the Author: JUDr. Alla Tymofeyeva Ph.D., devotes herself to the area of the European Convention Law. In 2011 she defended her Ph.D. thesis at the Law Faculty of the Charles University in Prague titled Access to independent and impartial court as a fair trial guarantee under the European convention on human rights. In the course of her studies in Prague, she was supported by the International Visegrad Fund (IVF), Scholarship for Ukrainians. In 2009 Alla participated in a traineeship programme at the Registry of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. Since 2010 she takes an active part in the SVV projects of the Department of International Law of the Faculty of Law, Charles University in Prague, which resulted in two articles, namely Consequences of children participation in armed conflicts (2011) and Women representation in state bodies of Ukraine (2010). Currently Alla is a staff scientist at the Department of International Law of the Law Faculty, Charles University in Prague in the frames of a post-doctorate program.
