JAN ONDŘEJ CYIL 14 (2023) by special rules in the form of an international treaty or at least a soft law document. In the war in Ukraine, which began with the Russian invasion in February 2022, there are being used means with at least elements of autonomous systems. Both sides, Ukraine and, with a certain time lag, Russia, in particular, use various types of drones (unmanned aerial vehicles). They are mostly operated by operators, but a certain degree of autonomy is used for some of them. However, it is very far from a war in which there were used mainly fully autonomous systems. One of the questions is, how these drones are used, unfortunately the rules of IHL are not always respected.
