The positive takeaway, however, is that we are part of a community grounded in shared values and committed to further strengthening human rights protection in the future – something which is far from a certainty in many parts of the world. Overall, I conclude that as a community, we need not halt our progress, take a few steps back, and start anew. Instead, we should celebrate the achievements we have made so far and focus on potential solutions for continued advancement. Reflecting on the origins of the EU’s most important human rights document, examining the complexities of its creation, and understanding its practical significance has been an enriching experience for me.
