2. Wheels, engine hinges A very interesting area of cooperation concerned some important parts of the car. An important work (from various points of view) was to solve the problem of loosening the wheel bolts of the Octavia wheel discs. The problem was so great that only cars with aluminum discs could be supplied at the time. The department worked intensively on the problem. A mathematical model of the joint was created and a number of measurements were performed. In conclusion, measures were proposed that led to the remedy. The thesis also included a difficult defense of the solution procedure and proposed measures directly in Wolfsburg. After the initial cold acceptance and apparent mistrust, the project was successfully defended and we also received the deserved recognition (Fig. 5).

Source: own elaboration At the same time, a similar problem was solved. For Fabia engines (especially heavier diesel engines) it happenned a fracture of the flexible hinge bolt. As we found out, although it was made of the highest quality material, it was stressed almost to yield strength. However, it was not possible to use a larger bolt. Again, the model of the bolt and related parts was created and a number of difficult (small space) measurements were made directly on the bolt body and while driving. Failures did not occur after the adoption of specific recommendations by us (Fig. 6).
