THE PRAGUE STUDENT SUMMIT
Three pillars of the PSS Model UN
Model UN is attended by secondary school students who simulate real deliberations of the United Nations. As the oldest component of the Prague Student Summit, it consists of six bodies: Security Council, Economic and Social Council, Human Rights Council, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), United Nations Environment Program and an affiliated simulation of the World Trade Organization. Students participate in national delegations and represent their country in the individual bodies of Model UN. A strong emphasis is put on cooperation within the delegation and unanimous representation of national policies across the Model. Some bodies have invited university students to join Model UN as accredited observers representing international organizations, multinational corporations and non-governmental organizations and thus enhancing the quality of the simulation and bringing it to a higher level. Model NATO Model NATO simulates the decision-making processes of the North-Atlantic Council and holds its deliberations exclusively in English. Individual nations are represented by secondary school students who improve both their knowledge of international affairs and their English. Twenty-eight carefully selected students take part in the five preparatory workshops alongside their colleagues in Model UN. Model EU University students participate in the Prague Student Summit as national ministers representing the individual countries of the European Union. Twenty-seven students thus get the opportunity to step into the shoes of high-level diplomats who negotiate at the Council of the European Union. Students discuss topical European issues, gain insight into the decision-making process of the Union and establish new friendships with their peers from other universities. Accompanying programme Besides participation in the workshops and the Conference, all delegates also have the opportunity to attend various accompanying events that the Prague Student Summit offers. This year, participants were able to choose from a number of interesting events.
