CYIL 13 ȍ2022Ȏ MOOT COURTS ON ISSUES OF PUBLIC INTERNATIONAL LAW IN 2021/2022 MOOT COURTS ON ISSUES OF PUBLIC INTERNATIONAL LAW IN 2021/2022 It has become a nice tradition to remember the successes of the students of Czech universities in moot court competitions focusing on public international law during the previous academic year. The covid-19 pandemic caused a disruption of the competitions as well and so, after its decline finally commenced, the organizers of various moot courts began inviting teams to participate once again, even in person. There is a multitude of competitions so let me just briefly mention some of them. Like in previous years, I have had the honour to be the coach of Charles University’s Faculty of Law’s team in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. Like the previous year, and unlike under regular conditions, the global rounds were held online. The topics of the 2022 Jessup were protection of human rights in cyberspace, secession, and foreign election interference via cyberspace. The Charles University team consisted of Jonáš Hrazdira, Daniel Kačer, Adam Lev, Jiří Rajtr, and Štěpán Vrba. Kamila Straková, Tomáš Ryza, and Petr Ráliš represented the Charles University, Faculty of Law in the Global Negotiation Conference 2022. Under the supervision of their coaches (Pavlína Krausová and Hana Láníková) they participated in simulated negotiations in which they represented China and successfully “negotiated” a multilateral treaty on outer space. The team was awarded with the Best Public Speech Award. Human rights moot court competitions are very popular and 2022 was no exception. Lucie Moozová, Jakub Rys, Petr Milichovský, and Petr Plšek (Alla Tymofeyeva and Pavlína Krausová coaching) represented the Charles University, Faculty of Law in the Helga Pedersen Moot Court Competition. The competition simulates proceedings in front of the European Court of Human Rights. The FDI Moot Court belongs to competitions that the students of the Charles University, Faculty of Law regularly participate in. Anna Mlynářová, Jakub Rys, Kamila Schejbalová, and Vladislav Vacek, under the supervision of Nikola Kurková Klímová and prof. Vladimír Balaš, competed in the moot held online this year. The topic of this year was a dispute between a foreign investor and a government concerning a purchase of a majority stake in a state airline due to which the investor was alleged to have violated the competition rules of an investor state. Subsequent regulations by the state, financial crisis, and related losses lead to the dispute. Magdalena Hlaváčková and Kamila Straková, under the supervision of Hana Láníková and Pavlína Krausová, took part in the 17 th ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition. This year’s online competition consisted of mediation and negotiation techniques practice and over 350 students from all around the world participated in it. The Charles University team also participated in the 29 th edition of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, the largest international moot court in the sphere of private international law. The team consisted of students Lucie Coufalová, Veronika Hájková, Martin Kopecký, Hildegarda Raszyková, Jitka Rounová, Jiří Rýdl and Vojtěch Sůva (Bára Bečvářová, Teodora Draškovič, Anna Kalašnikovová, Dominik Liška, Adéla Martínková and Lucie Tuzová coaching, with prof. Vladimír Balaš and JUDr. Petr Bříza as the overseeing coaches). This year’s case concerned the cross-border contract for sale of palm oil between
